Roots and Wings Village

Lead Kindergarten Teacher (Ages 5-6)

Job Description

Lead Teacher - Nature-Based Homeschool Enrichment Program (Ages 5-6) Walden, NY | Part-Time (Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday | 9:30 AM-3:30 PM) Roots & Wings Village is seeking an exceptional educator to join our teaching team. This is not a traditional teaching position. We're looking for someone who believes childhood is meant to be protected, relationships come before curriculum, and education can become something much deeper than preparing children for standardized tests. Our village is a nature-based, relationship-centered homeschool community where children spend their days immersed in the woods, gardens, creative expression, meaningful work, and a close-knit community. We believe children flourish when they are deeply connected—to themselves, to one another, to caring adults, and to the natural world. We're looking for someone who wants to help build what education can become. The Role You will serve as the lead teacher for our youngest elementary class (ages 5-7), guiding children through both our: CORE Program (Monday & Wednesday) - social-emotional learning, nature immersion, creative projects, community building, life skills, rhythm and relationship-based learning. Academic Enrichment (Tuesday) - language arts and mathematics taught through engaging, developmentally appropriate, hands-on experiences. This position also includes paid planning time, staff meetings, and collaborative curriculum development. We're Looking For Someone Who... Has professional teaching experience (public, private, Montessori, Waldorf, Reggio, homeschool or similar) Is highly organized, dependable, and able to lead with confidence Understands child development and values relationship before compliance Loves spending the majority of the day outdoors Sees emotional intelligence and community building as essential parts of education Is reflective, curious, and committed to their own personal growth Is comfortable working collaboratively with a passionate team Can communicate professionally with families Is excited by the opportunity to help shape an innovative educational model from the ground up While not required, we'd especially love to hear from educators who: Homeschool or have homeschooled their own children Have experience with nature-based, Waldorf, Reggio Emilia, forest school, democratic education, or similar approaches Have interests in mindfulness, emotional intelligence, restorative practices, or holistic child development About Roots & Wings Village Roots & Wings Village is more than an enrichment program—we're cultivating a village. Our mission is to support children and families through connection to self, each other, and the earth. We believe education should nurture the whole child while honoring wonder, curiosity, creativity, and the unique unfolding of every human being. We're creating a place where children are known deeply, where families build lasting community, and where teachers are trusted as creative professionals—not simply curriculum deliverers.
Schedule Monday:
9:30 AM-3:30

To Apply Please send your résumé to rootsandwingsvillage@gmail.com along with a letter introducing yourself. Rather than simply telling us where you've worked, we'd love to hear: What do you believe children most need today? What kind of educational environment allows them to truly thrive? What excites you about helping create a new paradigm for education? If you're looking for a position where you can simply teach a curriculum, this probably isn't the right fit. If you're looking to become part of a community reimagining what education can be, we'd love to hear from you.
