This position is a great opportunity for a certified teacher, experienced tutor, recent education or English graduate, or an educator looking for a flexible part-time position. What You Will Teach Depending on student needs and your experience, instruction may include: Paragraph and essay writing Organization and development of ideas Grammar, sentence structure, and mechanics Vocabulary and word choice Reading comprehension and written responses Evidence-based writing Informative, argumentative, and narrative writing Revising, editing, and proofreading School writing assignments and projects Preparation for increasingly complex middle and high school writing We're Looking for Someone Who Has strong writing, grammar, and communication skills Enjoys teaching and working with students Can clearly explain writing concepts and strategies Knows how to help students organize and develop their ideas Can make writing instruction engaging and approachable Is patient, reliable, organized, and enthusiastic Is comfortable working with Grades 5-12 Can adapt instruction to different learning needs and skill levels Is comfortable providing individualized and/or small-group instruction Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree, or currently pursuing a degree, in Education, English, Writing, or a related field Teaching, tutoring, or classroom experience with middle school and/or high school students Strong knowledge of English grammar and written communication Familiarity with school writing curricula and instructional resources A commitment to professional growth and ongoing training NJ teaching certification is a plus, but not required.
