Position Overview:

Sacred Heart Academy, a private Catholic high school for young women, is seeking a passionate and qualified English teacher to join our faculty. We are committed to academic excellence, character development, and the empowerment of young women in a faith-based environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in English Language Arts, a deep appreciation for literature—particularly British and American Literature—and a desire to contribute to our vibrant, values-centered community.

Key Responsibilities:

Teach high school English courses, with an emphasis on American and British Literature. Develop and deliver engaging, standards-based lessons that foster critical thinking, creativity, and strong communication skills in rigorous preparation for NYS Regents in Language Arts. Support the school's mission by integrating Catholic values into teaching and classroom culture. Create a positive, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment that nurtures academic and personal growth. Assess and monitor student progress through various forms of evaluation and provide timely feedback. Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development, school events, and interdisciplinary learning opportunities. Communicate effectively with students, parents, and faculty. Participate actively in the life of the school, including professional development, liturgies, retreats, and extracurricular activities. Moderator of the Speech and Debate Team.

Qualifications:

Master's Degree in English, Education, or a related field required. New York State (NYS) Teaching Certification in English (Grades 7-12) required. Experience teaching high school English is preferred. Background in or experience with American Literature is a plus. Commitment to the mission and values of Catholic education. Strong classroom management, organizational, and communication skills. A dedication to educating and inspiring young women in a faith-based setting.
