seeks 2 candidates for full-time Instructor of English positions. The positions require on-site teaching of various levels of English language instruction (beginner to advanced) for the seminary's English and Culture Studies Program (ECSP). Students are composed of international priests, vowed religious, and diocesan seminarians, coming from a variety of backgrounds and countries. Each position constitutes a nine-month, non-ranked, full-time academic faculty appointment with benefits, with a start date of Aug. 20, 2026. Both positions are renewable with the approval of the chief academic officer.
Duties:
Plan well-organized, student-centered
ESL/ESOL
(English as a Second Language/English for Speakers of Other Languages) lessons that employ a variety of techniques with an emphasis on students speaking, reading, writing and listening
Assist with ESL learners' acculturation and/or integration into American life
Help develop the class curriculum with team members and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program evaluation
Manage equipment, supplies and materials
Assess student performance and advise students on academic challenges
Attend departmental and institutional meetings, events, and/or liturgies
Qualifications:
A Master's in TESOL, TEFL, ESL or a related area; a doctorate is preferred but not required
Must have a minimum of one (1) year of full-time or two (2) years of part-time experience as an
ESL/ESOL
instructor
Proficiency in planning and teaching
ESL/ESOL
classes
Excellent communication skills and the ability to relate in a kind and compassionate way to people from other countries
High level of emotional intelligence and ability to easily identify and adapt to the needs of international students
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook in addition to normal instructional level skills in the use of classroom A/V equipment
Knowledge of the Roman Catholic tradition and/or a willingness to engage and serve SHSST's mission
