Part-time, based around Tap I & Tap II class schedules About the Opportunity Looking for a dedicated tap dancer who is interested in learning how to teach tap dance and developing their skills as an instructor and leader. This is an educational mentorship opportunity designed for someone who loves tap and would like hands-on experience learning what goes into teaching a tap class. You will assist in my Tap I and Tap II classes while receiving mentorship, guidance, and free tap classes as part of the internship. My long-term goal is to help develop someone who can confidently teach tap dance and potentially become a substitute teacher for my classes in the future. With very few tap instructors in San Antonio, I believe this is also a meaningful opportunity to help preserve and pass along the art form to the next generation of dancers. What You'll Learn You will have the opportunity to learn: How to structure and teach a tap class How to explain tap technique and terminology How to work with different ages and skill levels How to demonstrate and break down tap steps How to create combinations and choreography Classroom management and leadership skills How to give students constructive corrections What it takes to become a confident and effective tap instructor Responsibilities Assist with Tap I and Tap II classes Wednesday 5pm-7:30pm Participate in class demonstrations and exercises Help students when appropriate Observe and learn teaching techniques Assist with classroom organization and instruction Be willing to learn, receive feedback, and gradually take on more responsibility Requirements Experienced dancer no matter what genre At least 2 years of tap dance experience Strong interest in tap dance and teaching Reliable and responsible Comfortable working with children and/or beginning dancers Willingness to learn and receive constructive feedback Positive, encouraging attitude No prior teaching experience is required. This opportunity is specifically designed to help someone develop those skills. What You Receive Free tap classes One-on-one mentorship and guidance from an experienced tap instructor Hands-on teaching experience Opportunity to develop leadership and communication skills Experience working in a professional dance studio environment Potential opportunity to become a substitute tap instructor in the future based on experience, ability, and availability Who This Would Be Great For This could be a great opportunity for a college dance student, recent dance graduate, experienced dancer, or anyone with a strong tap background who has ever thought, "I would love to learn how to teach." If you love tap dance and are interested in helping keep the art form alive while growing into a teacher and leader, I would love to hear from you! To apply, please send a brief introduction including your tap experience, how long you have been dancing, your general availability, and why you are interested in learning to teach tap.
