The Tufts Art Education Master of Arts in Teaching program is dedicated to fostering creativity and excellence in art education for students earning their Initial License in K-12 Visual Art Teaching in Massachusetts. Our program prepares future art educators to inspire and lead in public schools and diverse learning environments. We are seeking experienced Program Supervisors to oversee our Art Education MAT students. Program Supervisors mentor our Teaching Candidates (student teachers) during the spring Practicum semester in Boston-area public schools. As professionals in the field of art education—whether working in schools, museums, community-based programs, or other art-related institutions—you will play a vital role in supporting our Teaching Candidates during their practicum semester in the spring. Your expertise and mentorship are crucial in shaping competent, innovative art educators who are prepared to inspire and educate students through visual arts. The ideal candidate will ensure compliance with
DESE CAP
regulations while supporting students throughout their education journey. Part-time art educators, retired art teachers, and artists with teaching experience are encouraged to apply. Flexible schedule during school hours is necessary, as is a car for access to schools not located near public transportation.
Key Responsibilities Conduct Observations:
Perform at least four structured observations of each candidate at their teaching placements during the practicum semester.
Provide Constructive Feedback:
Following each observation, offer meaningful, actionable feedback to support candidates' professional growth. Your insights should reflect your expertise in art education and include specific suggestions tailored to their lesson plans, delivery, and classroom environment. Write Formative and Summative Assessments in collaboration wit Supervising Practitioner.
Complete Assessment Documentation:
Utilize the CAP Platform provided by DESE to record observation data, ratings, and comments accurately and timely, ensuring compliance with program and state requirements. Support Reflective Practice Engage candidates in reflective discussions about their teaching practices, encouraging ongoing development and self-awareness in their growth as art educators. Offer Field-Specific Insights Share your perspectives on current trends, effective techniques, and real-world applications in art education, enriching candidates' understanding and preparing them for diverse educational contexts. Work closely with the Program Director and CAP Manager to make sure observations meet standards and that candidates receive comprehensive, supportive evaluations aligned with state licensing and certification expectations. Facilitate communication between faculty, students, and administrative staff
