The Department of Teaching and Learning (T&L) in the Phyllis J. Washington College of Education (CoE) invites applications for an Academic Advisor II to serve as the primary academic advisor for students pursuing teacher education pathways, guiding them from initial exploration through completion of the Teacher Education Program (TEP). This position plays a key role in student success by providing comprehensive advising, coordinating recruitment and retention initiatives, and collaborating with faculty, staff, and campus partners to support students' academic and professional goals. Serve as the primary advising contact for prospective and current Teacher Education, Secondary Education, and Graduate students, providing comprehensive academic advising and monitoring progress toward degree completion Respond to phone, email, and in-person inquiries regarding program requirements, licensure, field experiences, graduate programs, and student success pathways Responsible for planning and coordinating recruitment and retention activities Coordinates and shares advising information with the faculty and staff in the CoE, alumni, students, parents and the campus community, including faculty from secondary major/minor areas Manage the elementary and secondary education websites Develop and prepare printed, online and video materials concerning advising Develop advising budget recommendations Plan, prepare, and coordinate student orientations, UM Days, and other events in the Department of Teaching and Learning Compile and disseminate annual student evaluations of the Advising Program Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, including verbal, written, listening, and feedback skills Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and build effective relationships with students, staff, faculty, and administration Ability to adapt to changing priorities and maintain sound judgment, professionalism, and composure in stressful situations Sensitivity and respect for individual and cultural differences Skills to gather, evaluate, and report data Knowledge of, or ability to learn, UM general education requirements, FERPA, and institutional systems Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, and ability to learn Banner, and current technologies Preferred Qualifications Experience with academic advising, student services, counseling, coaching, teaching, or related student support work Experience working in a higher education setting Experience utilizing student information systems, advising technologies, or comparable software platforms Knowledge of current advising best practices and FERPA regulations Knowledge of teacher education programs, licensure requirements, and academic policies

Work Schedule:

Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, 12 months/year

Probationary Period:

Six (6) months minimum
