The Program Director is responsible for managing all aspects of the Leadership Somerset program, including program development, facilitation, budget, marketing, and recruitment. The position reports to the Director of Marketing and Communications. This is an in-person position; proposed time commitment is 10-12 hours/week. Community leadership programs like Leadership Somerset support the development of emerging leaders through a series of seminars, workshops, and projects. Leadership Somerset is a yearlong adult community leadership program that has operated since 2000. The program raises awareness about Somerset County government programs, services, and resources while developing informed, engaged, and connected leaders in the community. Leadership Somerset seeks applicants who live or work in Somerset County, have a desire to learn more about community resources, and reflect a cross-section of ages, cultures, races, interests, viewpoints, and experiences, ensuring diverse representation and perspectives.
Essential Functions Program Development and Implementation:
Schedule, plan, coordinate, and facilitate a year-long curriculum. Ensure class members complete three projects (individual, small team, and class project) before graduation. Coordinate lunch for the class. Facilitate exercises throughout the year that help to develop team and leadership skills.
Update Program Book for the new class.
Budget and Administration:
Oversee operational budget, track expenses, and coordinate receipt and deposit of program fees.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Cultivate relationships with community leaders, county leadership and divisions, affiliated agencies, and local nonprofits.
Marketing and Recruitment:
Promote the program on social media, with fliers, press release, and email communications. All promotional material must be approved by Marketing & Communications. Ask Leadership Somerset Fellows and network contacts to encourage people to apply. Identify program schedule for following year. Update the application form.
Schedule and facilitate virtual open house sessions.
Communication:
Be a confident public speaker and facilitate the sessions. Maintain communication with current class members, county leadership, and program fellows throughout the year. Address any issues or conflicts that develop. Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications Essential The Program Director must possess clear verbal and written communication skills, be a confident public speaker, and be an experienced facilitator. The individual must be able to lead the class, read the room, and demonstrate transparency, honesty, empathy, active listening, and accountability in all strategic decisions. Strong organizational and project management skills. Experience with conflict resolution and mediation. Knowledge of Somerset County government services, local nonprofits, and affiliated agencies. Knowledge of marketing, communication, and public relations best practices and industry standards. Experience with managing budgets.
Must have a valid NJ Driver's License.
Preferred:
Experience with a community leadership program.
