Job Description

The Dean of Students is a 10 month position and is included in the Newark Teachers' Association CBA as a Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA).

Starting Salary:

$49,275 Base & commensurate with Experience. Additional Salary Credit available for Master's Degree and Graduate Credits.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Dean of Students will work closely with the principal, grade and department level teams, instructional and behavioral coaches, school personnel and students to build and maintain a positive, safe school climate. The Dean of Students will demonstrate and implement successful student behavior management strategies. The Dean of Students will support the principal of the school to ensure that students receive the best possible education and services with the resources available, and the school is a positive, safe, healthy, and productive place to learn.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Support teachers in classroom setting with behavior management strategies Build positive relationships with students Communicate with parents regarding disciplinary issues Respond to students in crisis Support the MTSS process by assisting with data collection Communicate with administrators and BHT Other duties as assigned

PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Knowledge of student growth, development, and learning needs at the elementary school level. Comprehensive understanding of curriculum, instruction, and instructional supervision. Knowledge of effective educational practices that support student achievement and continuous school improvement. Ability to establish, communicate, and maintain high expectations for students, staff, and self. Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills to collaborate effectively with staff, families, community members, and other stakeholders. Demonstrated leadership and team-building skills that foster collaboration, trust, shared responsibility, and continuous improvement. Ability to make sound decisions, solve problems effectively, and address challenges in a professional manner. Ability to create and sustain a positive, collaborative, student-centered learning environment. Demonstrates integrity, professionalism, ethical conduct, and accountability in all actions. Operates with respect, responsibility, fairness, and reliability. Maintains high personal standards and a commitment to excellence and student success. Job Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

New York State Teacher Certification(s) Completed a minimum of five years of successful teaching and/or administrative experience, preferably at the elementary level. Holds a master's degree or higher from an accredited college or university. Application Procedure
