Job Description

Plans, assigns, and manages the work of advanced academic programs teams providing services for student talent development and advanced academic coursework; provides consultative support to staff as needed; ensures that staff is properly trained, and that assigned program uses current best practices.

No Qualifications:
Required Master's degree. Five (5) years of experience teaching in a related specialty, some of which shall have been in a supervisory or leadership role. Advanced degree(s) beyond the minimum degree requirement in a relevant field may be considered for some experience. Postgraduate educational license with endorsement(s) designated as appropriate to the assignment. Knowledge of philosophy, goals, procedures, organization, and professional specialties of the field of advanced academic education. Knowledge of public education organization and administrative requirements in advanced academics. Familiarity with applicable regulations, legislations, and policies. Skill in teaching adult learners. Ability to effectively lead teams in multiple projects. Ability to supervise and evaluate personnel. Ability to establish and maintain a successful cooperative working relationship with appropriate school communities and school-based and central office staff. Ability to facilitate meetings and/or present information to groups. Proficiency in the use of technology and data compilation, analysis, and reporting. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Preferred Endorsement in administration and supervision PreK-12.

Major Duties/Essential Functions:
Supervises the planning, organization, administration, and management of the assigned programs and staff providing support for advanced academic programs. Assists with the assessment and placement of students to determine the eligibility of certain special programs or services. Plans, develops, and adapts curriculum in field of specialization. Provides professional development opportunities for school system personnel serving students assigned to the program. Evaluates the systemwide efforts of program development and project initiatives and collaborates with Division and/or county staff to ensure delivery of appropriate and sufficient program services to the target student population. Assists with program policy within a specialty. Provides leadership, support, and program resources to meet requirements and matters of compliance for assigned programs. Tracks and monitors budgets and provides recommendations and advice related to budget development and forecasting. Manages data compilation, analysis, and reporting for evaluation and future planning. Facilitates meetings with community groups, employee associations, and/or families. Presents information and recommendations to senior management team. Monitors programs to ensure compliance with federal and state legislation and Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) directives. Oversees the work of vendors, contractors, and/or consultants working with students. Participates in ad hoc projects. Performs related duties as required or assigned.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements:
This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This job may also operate in a school environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. Per the FCFPSA collective bargaining agreement, telework may be approved in limited circumstances as defined by Regulation 4417.
