Background The National University of Singapore (NUS) invites applications for thepost of Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences . With a history that goes back to 1929, the Faculty comprisesfifteen Departments and a Centre for Language Studies. The Departments span the arts, humanities and social sciences, and form threedivisions: Asian Studies, Humanities, and Social Sciences. The Faculty has strong interdisciplinary collaborations across theuniversity. It has established the College for Humanities and Sciences with the Faculty of Science that offers a common interdisciplinarycurriculum based on the expertise of both Faculties. With the Faculty of Computing, it has also established the Centre for ComputationalSocial Science and Humanities to advance interdisciplinary research across the fields of both Faculties. The Faculty was ranked 19thand 16th in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026 for Arts and Humanities and for Social Sciences, respectively, and17th and 8th in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2026, with the latter ranking placing nine of its disciplines in theworld's top 10. The Dean should also possess anexemplary scholarly record and international reputation in any of the Faculty's disciplines suitable for appointment as a tenured FullProfessor in the Faculty.
