Job Description

Provide instructional continuity for students during the absence of the regular classroom teacher. The long-term substitute will implement the established curriculum, maintain a positive and orderly learning environment, assess student learning, communicate with school personnel and families as appropriate, and perform other professional duties consistent with the responsibilities of a high school classroom teacher. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide daily instruction in assigned high school social studies courses in accordance with established curriculum, lesson plans, and school corporation expectations. Follow the instructional plans, pacing guides, curriculum materials, and classroom procedures provided by the regular teacher and/or building administration. Deliver engaging instruction that supports student understanding of historical events, government, civics, economics, geography, and other assigned social studies content. Establish and maintain a positive, respectful, and academically focused classroom environment. Maintain appropriate classroom management and enforce school and classroom rules consistently. Take daily attendance and maintain accurate student records. Assign, collect, grade, and provide appropriate feedback on student work. Monitor student progress and communicate concerns regarding academic performance, behavior, attendance, or other student needs to appropriate school personnel. Utilize available technology and instructional resources to support student learning. Administer quizzes, tests, projects, and other assessments as directed by the curriculum and regular teacher. Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, arrival/dismissal areas, study halls, and other assigned duties. Follow all school safety procedures, emergency procedures, and applicable student supervision requirements. Support an inclusive classroom environment that respects individual student needs, backgrounds, abilities, and learning styles. Maintain classroom materials, equipment, and instructional resources in an organized and appropriate manner. Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal or superintendent
