Position Summary The 7th Grade Social Studies Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging instruction aligned to the North Carolina Standard Course of Study , creating a classroom culture where students are actively involved in learning, and using data-driven instructional practices to ensure student success. This teacher will cultivate historical thinking skills while helping students connect past events to today's world through inquiry-based and project-based learning opportunities. Essential Responsibilities Instructional Excellence Plan and deliver engaging lessons aligned to the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. Design student-centered learning experiences that encourage collaboration, discussion, problem-solving, and critical thinking. Incorporate real-world connections that help students understand the relevance of history, geography, economics, and civics. Utilize a variety of instructional strategies including primary source analysis, simulations, debates, technology integration, and project-based learning. Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners. Develop rigorous assessments that monitor student growth and inform instructional decisions. Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate regularly with students and families. Classroom Management & Culture Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, and highly structured classroom environment. Implement proactive classroom management strategies that maximize instructional time and student engagement. Build positive relationships with students while maintaining consistent expectations for behavior and academic excellence. Foster a classroom culture that promotes responsibility, collaboration, and mutual respect. Utilize restorative practices and positive behavior supports while consistently enforcing school expectations. Student Engagement Create lessons that actively engage students through discussion, inquiry, collaboration, and hands-on learning. Encourage students to think critically about historical events and their impact on modern society. Promote civic responsibility and global awareness through authentic learning experiences. Integrate educational technology to enhance instruction and increase student engagement. Professional Responsibilities Collaborate with grade-level and content-area teams to improve instruction and student achievement. Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), professional development, and school improvement initiatives. Analyze student performance data to guide instructional planning and interventions. Maintain timely lesson plans, grades, and required documentation. Communicate effectively with parents, colleagues, and administrators. Participate in school events, parent conferences, faculty meetings, and other assigned duties. Qualifications Required North Carolina teaching license (or eligibility for licensure) in Middle Grades Social Studies or related area. Strong knowledge of the North Carolina Social Studies curriculum and standards. Excellent classroom management and organizational skills. Ability to build meaningful relationships with middle school students. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Commitment to collaboration and continuous professional growth. Preferred Experience teaching middle school social studies. Experience with inquiry-based, project-based, or experiential learning. Knowledge of instructional technology and digital learning platforms. Experience using data to drive instructional decisions.
