Do you enjoy working with kids? Are you a writer? If you answered yes to both of these questions, this may be the job for you! Pacifica Writers' Workshop is a local Seattle company. Our goal is to inspire and unleash creativity for people of all ages. We provide creative writing opportunities through classes, workshops, camps, and tutoring. Our original curricula is written by published authors and seasoned instructors. We are currently hiring a Children's Workshop Instructor for our elementary age students. We offer creative writing workshops in schools and community centers in Seattle and the Eastside. The range of students in these classes is between 6-12 years of age. This is a wide array of classes, our instructors teach everything from comic books to poetry. This position requires a love of children, a love of writing, and a love of laughter. We want our instructors and our students to have fun. Instructors must also be on time to class, be able to manage a classroom of children, teach from a written curriculum, and communicate with parents/guardians by using good customer service. Instructors mustn't be published in the specific genre they are teaching, but they should be able to offer basic feedback on spelling, grammar, and narrative structure. Starting pay for this position is $35 per hour. We will also provide a travel stipend of $5 per class. Our classes last for 1.5 hours. These classes primarily run in the afternoon, between the hours of 1 and 5 p.m. Instructors teach in different locations throughout the week. We will provide all the necessary teaching materials. As a Children's Workshop Instructor, you will be responsible for :
teaching from our original curricula
lecturing young students on creative writing topics
reading student work and providing feedback on it
leading group discussions and class games
preparing for every class and arriving on time
classroom management and staying until all students have been picked up
setting up and cleaning your teaching space
communicating with parents/guardians To qualify for this position you must :
be able to pass a criminal background check
have at least 6 months experience working with children This is a part-time contract position.
