Overview Under the direction of the Assistant Library Director, the primary responsibilities of this position include shelving library materials accurately and working at the information desk as assigned. This position performs front line tasks related to circulation of library materials and patron customer service, including helping patrons locate library materials. The position provides consistent, courteous and sincere customer service to patrons and library staff at all times. Essential Functions & Duties Shelve library materials in the correct location. Interact with and assist patrons in a sincere and consistent manner. Perform shelf-reading accurately. Work at the circulation desk as assigned. Accurately enter patron information into the computer system. Assist patrons with library technology. Assist patrons in the use of the library and finding materials. Process and repair library materials as needed. Catalog magazines and periodicals as needed. Repair and clean damaged A/V material. Provide staff support for programs and services, including circulation desk, as needed. Qualifications Must be 16 years of age or older. Must be currently enrolled in or have completed high school education or its equivalent. Ability to quickly learn and utilize current library technology. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to a diverse range of people. Capability to adapt to challenging or difficult situations. Flexibility to work a variety of hours, including evenings and weekends as needed. Supplemental Information Physical, Mental, & Environmental Requirements Position requires light work with the ability to lift up to 20 pounds. Climbing, pulling, kneeling, stooping, fingering, crawling, crouching, feeling, standing, reaching, hearing, pushing, walking, balancing, lifting, grasping, talking, and repetitive motion is required on a regular basis. Visual and aural perception must be sufficient to operate a variety of office equipment and to communicate effectively with members of the public. Must be functionally literate in written and spoken English and be able to follow written and oral instructions. Position requires exposure to environmental conditions.
