40 hrs/week Position Purpose In support of the Town of Great Barrington\'s organizational mission to serve the community with integrity, accessibility, and excellence in public service, the Youth Services/Marketing position plays an important role in creating a welcoming, engaging, and inclusive library experience for children, teens, and their families. Working as a member of the Library team, this position provides high-quality customer service at the Children\'s Room circulation desk, assists patrons in accessing library resources and technology, maintains youth collections, and supports the delivery of educational, recreational, and literacy-focused programming. Additionally, the Youth Services/Marketing role collaborates with Library leadership to create and maintain promotional content for library services, collections, and programming helping connect patrons with books, information, and enriching library experiences while ensuring that library services are responsive, organized, and accessible. This position contributes to the Library\'s mission by maintaining inviting public spaces, supporting outreach and community engagement initiatives, assisting with programs and special events, and promoting equitable access to library collections, services, and digital resources. Success in this role requires exceptional customer service, strong communication and organizational skills, attention to detail, creativity, sound judgment, and the ability to build positive relationships with children, families, colleagues, and community members in a collaborative and welcoming environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides excellent customer service to all patrons, following library policies, administrative practices and procedures.
  • Performs all aspects of circulation including phone, electronic, and in person inquiries, checking in and out of materials, shelving, notification and collection of fees. Maintains materials with a neat, orderly, and easy-to-find shelving protocol.
  • Assists patrons with computer-related inquiries, online database searches, and interlibrary loan requests. Assists patrons to use library digital resources on computer or mobile devices.
  • Maintains a welcoming and engaging Children\'s Room at Ramsdell.
  • Implements a range of regular and special programming at Ramsdell for infants through teens.
  • Assists with purchasing of programming and other materials for youth at Ramsdell.
  • Purchases, processes, and catalogs youth collection materials for Ramsdell under the guidance of the Branch Manager.
  • Performs periodic weeding and quality control under the guidance of the Branch Manager.
  • Works as a team with the Director, Assistant Directors, Youth Supervisor, and Branch Manager to create flyers for programs and to promote library services and collections. Posts to social media and creates a regular newsletter.
  • Works with the team to update the library website.
  • Works cooperatively with the Team on special projects
  • Serves as supervisor at Ramsdell in the absence of the Branch Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned.
This may include working in other departments within the libraries. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor\'s Degree, three years of library experience, or a comparable combination of education and experience. Specialized training in library techniques to be completed after employment. Experience working with children and/or teens preferred.
