Job Description

Head of Circulation, Haverhill Public Library (Haverhill)

Job Summary

Responsible for the operation of all aspects of the Circulation Department of a busy public library, including staff supervision, collection development, circulation services, and budget oversight. In coordination with the Management Team, plans and manages circulation technology upgrades and policies, including the introduction of new procedures. Supervision Received

Works under the supervision of the Library Director and Assistant Director

Supervises professional and support staff in the Circulation Services Department; oversees volunteers and pages assigned to the department; acts as de facto manager in absence of director and assistant director, supervises all subordinate staff when appropriate

Qualifications

Qualifications and Knowledge

1. Knowledge of print and electronic resources

2. Interest in and familiarity with mobile technologies and their use in delivering services

3. Knowledge of library trends and best practices

4. Ability to meet people easily and get along well with others

5. Ability to express one's self clearly, concisely, and pleasantly in the English language in person, orally, and in writing

6. Ability to learn new skills quickly

7. Ability to work with MS Office products, both for internal library use and for patron instruction

8. Ability to use new technologies, mobile devices, and social networking tools to communicate with library customers and colleagues

9. Ability to manage situations in a busy, service-oriented environment with tact, courtesy, initiative, resourcefulness, and good judgment

10. Ability to work cooperatively as a team member

11. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

12. Ability to use, or quickly learn, ILS and facilitate staff and public use of the ILS/catalog

Minimum Qualifications

1. Master of Library Science Degree from an ALA-accredited institution, will consider ongoing work towards a graduate degree and combined experience

2. Three to five years experience in a public library administrative position, preferably Circulation Services, managing both MLS and paraprofessional staff

3. Demonstrated facility and experience with the Internet, electronic databases, Microsoft Office products, and integrated library systems

4. Demonstrated facility and/or experience working with the public in a diverse urban environment

5. Working knowledge of Spanish is a plus

Physical Requirements

Regularly required to bend, stoop, squat, and reach. Must be able to push or pull a cart of library materials, to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds, and to use a two-step footstool

$70,212.64 - $83,018.30 / year
