Job Description

Shelver Wage:
$11.00/hour
FLSA Status:
Part-Time (20 hours)
Location:
Geauga West Library - GCPL Reports to: Head of Circulation and Shelving Help Keep Our Library Organized as a Shelver! Are you detail-oriented and enjoy creating order? We're looking for a Shelver to help keep our library collection neat, accessible, and inviting for all. In this role, you'll return books and materials to their proper places, straighten shelves, and make it easy for patrons to find what they need. This is a great position for someone who enjoys working independently, takes pride in accuracy, and wants to support their community library.
Essential Job Functions:
This list is illustrative, but not exhaustive for this position. Accurately sorts and verify all library materials, including sorting mail. Shelves or stores all library materials in proper order. Processing and deleting magazines and newspapers. Logs in newspaper/investment guides Responsible for filling holds. Empty book drops. Keeps library neat by clearing tables of materials and straightening furniture. Replacing book covers and cleaning children's books May assist at circulation desk as needed. Other duties as assigned which may include but are not limited to: Shovels snow and salts walkways. Update signs and remove New Arrival stickers Operate handicap lift (Chardon Library) Searching for missing or claims returned items.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics:
Willingness and adaptability to work in a changing environment. Must have a friendly and cooperative manner in dealing with employees and the public. Able to be flexible and adapt to library needs in a changing work environment. Able to shelve in alphabetical and numerical order Safely observe all PERRP procedures.
Minimum Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent or working toward a high school diploma or equivalent. Must have basic computer skills.
Physical Requirements:
Able to lift at least 40 pounds. Able to lift and remove multiple books from shelves to accomplish shifting of books. Able to push or pull full book carts and book drops. Able to bend, stretch walk and/or kneel in order to shelve books on both the highest and lowest shelving, as well as set up chairs and tables in meeting rooms. Able to operate objects, tools, or controls - including computers, phones, and office equipment. Competence in completing tasks that involve reading or visual inspection, with or without visual aids.
