JOB SUMMARY

The part-time library assistant works with the reference librarians in the circulation area of the Midland College Library (MC Library), otherwise known as Library Services, to assist students, faculty, staff, and the public with the discovery. This position will require evenings and weekends. Provide first-level customer service to patrons. The MC Library contains digital and physical research materials, study spaces, computing, and printing equipment. Library assistants will help patrons access and use these resources and refer them to next-level assistance as needed. This position will require a rotation of working evenings and weekends.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Provide first-level research and circulation assistance Demonstrate how to access and utilize library resources Provide general computer assistance Collect usage and interaction data for trend tracking and library reporting Refer patrons to other staff and departments when appropriate Maintain and troubleshoot computers, printers, and other office equipment, including refilling supplies, resolving minor problems, and reporting issues Maintain an orderly environment, including reshelving books, rearranging furniture, and spot cleaning Monitor supply levels and request new stock in sufficient time for resupply Other duties as assigned Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Customer service experience Good communication skills in verbal, digital, and written form Knowledge of general office equipment, including computers and printers Knowledge of software programs, including the Microsoft Office Suite and web browsers General internet experience Preferred Qualifications Prior library job experience Knowledge of the research process Proficiency with common library tools Proficiency with the Canvas

LMS WORK ENVIRONMENT

Typical office Business Hours M-Th 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. F 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. summer M-Th 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 pm Periodic evening and weekend hours during peak periods (e.g., open enrollment, payroll) Occasional travel (less than 10%) Physical Demands Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time The person in this position needs to move to other locations on campus occasionally Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation Use of manual dexterity The person in this position frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information Frequently moves equipment or paperwork weighing up to 25 pounds Quiet environment Salary Range - $11.50/hour
