PROGRAM DETAILS
The Middle School Math Specialist will provide targeted math intervention services for students in grades 6-8 at Dr. MLK Academy School in the Sausalito Marin City School District. This is primarily a pull-out model, working in close partnership with the math teacher to align on curriculum and meeting students' needs. There may be opportunities for co-teaching in the regular math classroom sometimes. The teacher will collaborate with the regular teacher to monitor student progress through ongoing data analysis and sharing information about students. The Middle School Math Specialist will collaborate regularly with the BTG intervention team to align strategies, share data, and ensure consistent support across grade levels. The team includes one math and one literacy interventionist at the elementary level and one literacy interventionist at the middle school level. The program operates during the regular school year (mid-August through early June) and includes an additional five-week summer session.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Credentials Bachelor's degree required Multiple Subject Teaching Credential or Single Subject Math Credential required Master's degree or advanced coursework in mathematics or education preferred Related Experience Experience teaching middle school math required Experience in math intervention, tutoring, or small group instruction preferred Experience working in diverse educational settings preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong understanding of middle school math content and standards Ability to collaborate effectively with middle school math teachers Experience using data to inform instruction and monitor student growth Proficiency with Google Workspace (G-Suite), Slack, Salesforce and Aeries (or similar student data systems) Ability to differentiate instruction fo Job Description /
Essential Elements:
Print Bridge the Gap College Prep (BTGCP) is seeking a teacher with middle or high school math teaching experience to work with our middle school students in a college prep academic, after school (extended learning day) program for children in Marin City. We are seeking an credentialed (or equivalent experienced) teacher who has experience and passion for motivating students with engaging and rigorous instruction in math aligned to school and state standards. The classroom hours are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 2:00pm-6:00pm and Wednesday from 1:00pm- 5:00pm. There will be additional hours for professional development and special BTGCP activities throughout the year. Classroom teacher duties include but are not limited to the following: Help design curriculum to support academic needs of students in Math aligned with current school programs and state standards Assess student levels in Math Select appropriate materials to teach those levels Help students with homework assignments as needed Assign tutor volunteers appropriate activities to support student learning Understand and appreciate the background and special challenges of the students in our college prep academic extended day program Attend professional development and special events during the year
Professional Requirements:
2-5 years teaching experience, appropriate credentials required Ability to work with students grades 6th-8th Experience working with students and families from racially and social economically diverse backgrounds Comfortable working in a team teaching atmosphere with other teachers Passion for working with underserved children to create a college bound expectation Experience in creating enriching, engaging and rigorous learning experiences to support student success Ability to manage volunteer college and adult tutors Sense of humor and positive attitude absolutely critical Desire and ability to build relationships with students, tutors, and parents quickly and easily
Physical Requirements/ Work Environment:
Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must be able to stand for at least 2 hours. Must be able to sit at computer workstation for long time periods
