Full-Time, 10-Month Position Position Summary The High School Mathematics Teacher is responsible for creating a rigorous, engaging, and student-centered learning environment that promotes mathematical understanding, critical thinking, problem-solving, and real-world application. The teacher delivers standards-aligned instruction, monitors student progress, differentiates learning to meet diverse student needs, and collaborates with colleagues, families, and administrators to support student achievement and well-being. The successful candidate demonstrates a commitment to academic excellence, equity, innovation, and continuous professional growth while fostering positive relationships with students and the school community. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Instruction and Learning Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based mathematics instruction aligned with district and state curriculum. Teach assigned mathematics courses, which may include advanced mathematics courses. Develop lessons that promote conceptual understanding, mathematical reasoning, and problem-solving. Differentiate instruction to address varying learning styles, abilities, and student needs. Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, technology tools, and evidence-based practices to increase student engagement and achievement. Incorporate real-world applications and interdisciplinary connections into mathematics instruction. Foster a classroom culture that encourages inquiry, collaboration, perseverance, and intellectual curiosity. Assessment and Student Progress Design and administer formative and summative assessments to measure student learning. Analyze assessment data to inform instruction and improve student outcomes. Maintain accurate and timely records of student attendance, grades, and academic progress. Provide meaningful, timely feedback to students. Develop intervention and enrichment opportunities based on student performance. Classroom Management Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, inclusive, and productive learning environment. Implement effective classroom management strategies that promote student responsibility and positive behavior. Maintain high expectations for student conduct and academic integrity. Collaboration and Communication Collaborate with teachers, instructional coaches, counselors, special education staff, and administrators to support student success. Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and concerns. Participate actively in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), department meetings, faculty meetings, and school committees. Support school initiatives and contribute to a positive school culture. Professional Responsibilities Maintain current knowledge of mathematics content, instructional best practices, and educational technology. Participate in professional development activities and apply new learning to instructional practice. Comply with all district policies, state regulations, and professional ethical standards. Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or designee. Qualifications Required Education Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Secondary Education, or a closely related field. Required Certification Valid North Carolina state teaching certification/licensure in Secondary Mathematics or eligible for North Carolina teaching license. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Mathematics, Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or related field. Experience teaching multiple levels of high school mathematics. Experience using instructional technology and digital learning platforms. Knowledge of differentiated instruction, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS). Experience working with diverse student populations. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to: Deliver high-quality mathematics instruction using research-based instructional practices. Build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues. Analyze student data to improve instructional effectiveness. Technology Expectations The teacher should be proficient in the use of: Learning Management Systems (LMS) Student Information Systems (SIS) Interactive presentation platforms Online assessment tools Microsoft Office and Google Workspace Graphing calculators and mathematics software AI-enhanced instructional tools used in accordance with district policy to support lesson planning, differentiation, formative assessment, and student feedback while maintaining academic integrity and protecting student privacy. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and families. Ability to lift and carry instructional materials weighing up to 25 pounds. Ability to perform duties requiring visual and auditory acuity. Working Conditions School classroom environment. Occasional evening or weekend responsibilities for school events, conferences, or professional development. Frequent interaction with students, parents, staff, and community members.
