Job Description

Job Summary:
The Afterschool Teacher is responsible for supervising and supporting students during the afterschool program in a safe, warm, organized, and engaging environment. This role requires strong classroom management, clear communication, reliability, and a caring approach with children. The Afterschool Teacher helps maintain smooth afternoon routines, supports student independence, ensures students are safe and respectfully guided until dismissal, and completes assigned classroom closing procedures at the end of the day.
Key Responsibilities:
Student Supervision and Safety:
Supervise students at all times during afterschool hours, including indoor activities, outdoor play, snack, transitions, and dismissal. Maintain a safe, calm, and orderly environment that supports positive student behavior. Follow all school safety, supervision, licensing, and emergency procedures. Monitor student interactions and support respectful conflict resolution when needed. Ensure students are released only to authorized adults according to school procedures.
Afterschool Program Support:
Lead or support age-appropriate activities such as art, games, outdoor play, reading, practical life activities, and quiet work. Help maintain a balanced afternoon rhythm that includes active play, structured activities, and calm transitions. Support students with snack, belongings, bathroom routines, and end-of-day organization. Keep afterschool materials, classrooms, and outdoor spaces clean, organized, and ready for use. Complete assigned classroom closing procedures each day, ensuring the environment is clean, organized, secure, and ready for the next school day.
Student Guidance:
Build positive, respectful relationships with students. Use clear, calm, and developmentally appropriate language when guiding behavior. Encourage independence, responsibility, cooperation, and kindness. Redirect students respectfully and communicate concerns to administration when needed.
Communication and Teamwork:
Communicate professionally with families during dismissal and refer larger concerns to administration when appropriate. Work collaboratively with teachers, assistants, administration, and other afterschool staff. Report accidents, incidents, behavioral concerns, or parent concerns promptly and accurately. Follow school policies, procedures, and expectations for professionalism and confidentiality.
Professional Expectations:
Arrive on time and be prepared for assigned shifts. Maintain a positive, dependable, and flexible attitude. Participate in required staff meetings, training, or professional development as assigned. Model respectful communication and behavior with students, families, and colleagues.
Qualifications:
Experience working with children preferred. Ability to supervise groups of children safely and confidently. Strong communication and classroom management skills. Dependable, patient, warm, and professional. Must meet all required background screening, training, and childcare compliance requirements.
Pay:
$18.00 - $20.00 per hour Expected hours: 13.5 per week
