POSITION SUMMARY

Under the guidance of the Youth Development Director, the Lead Teacher will assist with all aspects of planning, organizing and implementation of the Y-time Afterschool Program that reflect the needs and interests of school-aged children. The Lead teacher is responsible for helping to maintain a safe and engaging afterschool program; ensuring a high level of program quality and working to establish a positive relationship with all program participants and their families.

Essential Functions:

1. Provides supervision and ensures safety of all children within the Y-Time afterschool program 2. Provides supervision and guidance to assistant teacher(s) and support staff within the program. 3. Creates and implements developmentally appropriate daily plans of the program including but not limited to art projects, small group games, large group games, gym games, sporting activities and field activities that provide a variety of choices and opportunities for children. 4. Engages actively with children in the program. 5. Uses positive approaches to help children behave constructively. 6. Has meaningful interactions with children in the program on a consistent and regular basis. 7. Maintains cleanliness of all areas used for programming. 8. Responsible for direction/supervision of support staff on a daily basis and encourages a cooperative working environment. 9. Getting children to and from all extra-curricular classes that occur during Y-time. 10. May assist the afterschool program with transporting youth to the Y. 11. Attends and participates in staff meetings, and staff training. 12. Drive mini busses to pick up children from school when needed 13. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Previous experience working with school-aged children. 2. Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities. 3. Ability to work with and relate to school-aged children and co-workers. 4. Physically able to play sporting and gym games 5. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications within 30 days of hire date.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to plan, lead and participate in sporting and gym activities. Ability to stand for long periods of time. Ability to interact with children on their level.
