Job Description

West Noble Middle School is seeking a dedicated, empathetic, and organized 8th Grade Classroom Assistant to support our teaching team and students during a pivotal transitional school year. In this role, you will work closely with 8th-grade teachers to foster an engaging, inclusive, and structured learning environment. You will provide instructional support, assist with classroom management, and offer targeted guidance to individual students or small groups to help them succeed academically, socially, and emotionally as they prepare for high school.
Key Responsibilities Instructional Support:
Work with small groups or individual students to reinforce lessons taught by the classroom teacher. Assist in implementing individualized learning plans (IEPs or 504 plans) for students requiring tailored support. Help adapt learning materials or assignments to meet diverse student needs.
Classroom Management & Operations:
Support the lead teacher in maintaining a positive, safe, and productive classroom environment. Help manage daily routines, transitions, and student engagement during instructional time. Supervise students during non-instructional times (e.g., lunch, recess, hallway transitions, or arrival/dismissal), as needed.
Student Mentorship & Support:
Serve as a encouraging role model for 8th-grade students navigating middle school expectations and high school readiness. Assist teachers in tracking student progress, behavior, and participation. Help foster executive functioning skills, such as organization, time management, and study habits.
Collaboration & Communication:
Communicate regularly with classroom teachers and school administrators regarding student progress or concerns. Assist with preparing classroom materials, organizing resources, and setting up instructional technology.
Qualifications & Skills Education & Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required (Associate's degree or relevant college coursework preferred). Must be Highly Qualified or able to complete necessary training. Prior experience working with middle school students or in an educational/youth-development setting is highly preferred. Knowledge or experience working with special education or English language learners (ELL) is a plus.
Personal Attributes & Skills:
Strong communication, interpersonal, and active listening skills. Patience, flexibility, and a student-centered approach to learning and behavior management. Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, staff, and school leadership. Basic proficiency with educational technology and office tools (e.g., Google Suite).
