Before School SEL and Wellness Teacher
POSITION SUMMARY
The Before School SEL and Wellness Program allows middle school students in grades 6-8 to start their days with physical movement, wellness, and skill-building activities to support daily attendance, reduce tardiness, and build strong academic success. Through structured physical movement, SEL, and wellness activities using the ActiveKids Curriculum, students learn
teamwork, nutrition, SEL, and wellness, and build healthy habits that support educational focus, readiness to learn, and daily attendance.
The Before School SEL and Wellness Teacher develops and facilitates engaging lessons using the ActiveKids Curriculum. The Lead Teacher will provide structured physical activities that promote teamwork, nutrition, SEL, wellness, healthy habits, and physical wellness while maintaining a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all students. The Teacher will also monitor student participation and help students transition to the school day prepared, focused, and ready to learn.

Includes 1 hour of prep time per week
REMUNERATION
$40/Hour; total maximum stipend amount not to exceed $5,200 for both sessions
Number of Openings:
Up to 2 positions available per school, 10 positions total districtwide
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Deliver wellness-focused enrichment using the ActiveKids curriculum https://activekids.org/about-active-kids/about-us/
Support student recruitment and registration for the program
Lead movement and fitness activities that are safe, inclusive, and engaging while focused on health, SEL, and wellness, promoting daily student attendance and academic success.
Encourage overall wellness, daily school attendance, and overall academic achievement through lessons and activities that promote resiliency and perseverance through physical fitness, SEL, and wellness activities
Take daily attendance and monitor student participation in the program
Communicate with families and school staff regarding student needs and progress in the program
Manage student behaviors with positive interventions during the program
Ensure the safety of equipment and spaces during program time
Share any concerns about students; needs with the school administration
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Current EPS employee in good standing
Experience working with middle school students in Grades 6-8.
Experience planning or facilitating youth education, physical activity, wellness, SEL or enrichment programming.
Ability to lead safe, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate movement and fitness activities.
Strong communication, organization, collaboration, and positive behavior-management skills.
Ability to implement the ActiveKids Curriculum and support students with varied physical,
behavioral, linguistic, and social-emotional needs.
Availability to work the full schedule for the appointed session(s)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in education, physical education, health, youth development, or a related field
Previous experience supporting before-school, after-school, or other extended-learning programming.
Experience using a structured physical activity, nutrition, SEL or wellness curriculum.
SEI Endorsement or experience supporting multilingual learners.
Special Education licensure or experience supporting students with disabilities.
Multilingual capacity.
