Part-time Pottery Technician

Job Description

This is a part-time position with a maximum of 1,508 hours per year and is not eligible for paid holidays, leave, or benefits. Job Description This Pottery Technician will be responsible for providing customer service, maintaining clean workspaces, and inspecting areas and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and proper condition at Lenora Park Community Recreation Center. The responsibilities for this position also include monitoring supplies and equipment inventory, purchases, and coordinating studio schedules and usage. Essential Duties Handling and operating a variety of studio program supplies and equipment, including gas, electric, and raku firings Maintaining the safety of the pottery studio through regular cleaning, maintenance, and proper storage and handling of raw materials, kiln equipment, pottery wheels, and pottery drains Mixing glazes and underglazes Maintaining inventory and/or stock of all needed clays, glazes, tools, and general supply needs of the pottery studio Developing and adhering to kiln firing schedule (weekly) Requesting quotes and reviewing invoices from pottery suppliers and maintenance contractors Registering patrons for classes, independent study, and clay sales Assisting students during self-directed and/or independent study periods Assisting the pottery instructor Assisting recreation staff with special events and seasonal programming, including day and summer camp programs Performing other duties as assigned Public Speaking Duties Ongoing public interaction with the students and staff through speaking, writing, and presentations Other Job Requirements/Information This job may require on-call rotation and emergency after-hours, weekends, and/or holidays. This job will require a 50-pound lift test. Hourly rate The hourly rate is $20.00. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or G.E.D. Two years of experience working with ceramics Valid driver's license An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job, such as those listed above, will also be considered. Preferred Qualifications in addition to the above minimum qualifications Associate degree in ceramics, studio art, or related field, or B achelor's degree in ceramics, studio art, or related field Teaching ceramics or related time and experience working with ceramics For more information about this department, please click here .
