Spencer Museum Student Ambassador University of Kansas - 4.2 Lawrence, KS Job Details 21 hours ago Qualifications Tour guiding Educational talks Conducting guided tours Cultural guided visit experience Working with students Experience working with 5th graders Elementary school teaching experience Communication skills Outreach events (outreach initiatives) Entry level Time management Full Job Description Position Overview Spencer Student Ambassadors share enthusiasm for art and ideas with kindergarten through fifth grader visitors to the Spencer Museum of Art as well as fellow KU students. Students will attend museum guide training and work alongside museum staff to facilitate museum tours for elementary students and plan outreach activities for KU students.
Key responsibilities:
Provide support to the SMA Education team. Guide and facilitate tours for visiting kindergarten through fifth grade students. Attend and participate in ambassador training to learn about the Spencer Museum of Art collections and tour facilitate techniques. Provide hands-on assistance in other outreach activities as needed. Job Description 60% - Lead museum tours for elementary-aged students. 30% - Attend ambassador training and informational meetings. 10% - Provide hands-on assistance at other museum outreach activities. Required Qualifications Previous experience which required good communication skills, as evidenced by application materials. Must be available to work at least four hours a week Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday between 10AM-3PM. Must be able to pass background check. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience working with elementary-aged children. Previous experience in art and/or art education. Experience setting a positive tone for interaction, demonstrating responsibility and respect for other's rights, feelings, lifestyles, with all backgrounds. Well organized and good time management skills, as demonstrated in application materials. Eligible for Federal Work Study preferred. Position Requirements During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for
GRA/GTA/GA
appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments). Employment Conditions (1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR. (2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
