Open and flexible based on instructor availability and program needs. Weekday, evening, and Saturday opportunities may be available. Substitute teaching opportunities are also available. Laurissa Jane Music Performing Arts Program (LJMS) is home to a warm and welcoming community of budding musicians. We are seeking dedicated, energetic, and reliable music educators to teach private piano lessons, group piano classes, chorus, and occasional virtual classes. Applicants may be considered for piano instruction, chorus instruction, or both, depending on their experience and qualifications. Please do not apply if you are unable to travel consistently to Rosedale, Queens. The instructor will prepare and implement lesson plans according to each student's age, experience, ability level, and musical goals. Our teachers help students develop musicianship, confidence, creativity, and performance skills while making every lesson meaningful and engaging. Piano Instructor Responsibilities Teach private and group piano lessons to students ages 5 through adult Provide instruction in piano technique, music theory, sight-reading, ear training, and musicianship Teach various musical genres and styles based on students' interests and goals Prepare students for NYSSMA, ABRSM, recitals, showcases, and additional performances Create and distribute sheet music, lesson notes, assignments, and other educational materials Assess and document student progress Provide professional and constructive feedback to students and families Plan organized, age-appropriate, and engaging lessons Chorus Teacher Responsibilities Lead engaging group chorus classes for children and teens Teach proper vocal technique, breathing, diction, pitch, rhythm, harmony, and stage presence Select age-appropriate and culturally diverse repertoire Teach students to sing confidently in unison and harmony Develop students' musicianship, teamwork, confidence, and performance skills Prepare the chorus for recitals, showcases, community events, and other performances Create lesson plans and rehearsal materials based on students' ages and ability levels Maintain a positive, structured, and encouraging classroom environment General Responsibilities Arrive on time and remain dependable for all scheduled lessons and classes Maintain accurate records of attendance and student progress Communicate professionally with students, families, and LJMS staff Collaborate with other instructors and participate in faculty meetings when available Follow LJMS policies, procedures, and professional expectations Help create a safe, welcoming, and inspiring learning environment Qualifications and Skills Proven experience as a piano, voice, or chorus instructor Strong background as a musician and music educator Ability to teach private lessons, group classes, or both Ability to read music and teach music theory, sight-reading, and ear training Knowledge of NYSSMA and ABRSM repertoire and requirements is preferred for piano instructors Knowledge of vocal health and age-appropriate singing techniques is preferred for chorus instructors Piano proficiency is strongly preferred for chorus instruction Experience working with children and teens; experience teaching adults is a plus Strong classroom-management and rehearsal-leadership skills Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Organized, dependable, patient, creative, and energetic Passion for music education and helping students grow Reliable transportation to Rosedale, Queens We are looking for instructors who can connect with students of different ages, backgrounds, learning styles, and ability levels while helping them develop a lifelong appreciation for music.
