Elementary School Assignment (Grades K-8) Position Summary The General Education Teacher is responsible for creating a positive and engaging learning environment that promotes academic achievement, social-emotional growth, and student success. The teacher develops and delivers standards-based instruction, assesses student progress, collaborates with school staff and families, and supports the overall educational mission of Prairie-Hills Elementary School District 144. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction in assigned subject areas. Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment conducive to learning. Differentiate instruction to meet the academic, social, emotional, and developmental needs of all students. Assess student performance through formal and informal measures and use data to guide instruction. Develop lesson plans, instructional materials, and classroom activities aligned with district curriculum and Illinois Learning Standards. Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and progress. Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student achievement and classroom expectations. Implement classroom management strategies that promote positive student behavior. Collaborate with special education staff, intervention teams, administrators, and related service providers to support student success. Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, parent conferences, and professional development activities as required. Utilize educational technology and digital learning tools to enhance instruction and student engagement. Supervise students during designated duties, including arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, and other assigned activities. Maintain confidentiality of student information and records. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Building Principal. Minimum Qualifications Education & Licensure Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Education or a related field. Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with appropriate endorsement for the assigned grade level and content area. Must meet all Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) requirements for employment. Experience Previous classroom teaching experience preferred. Student teaching experience required. Experience working with diverse student populations preferred. Experience implementing data-driven instructional practices preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong knowledge of Illinois Learning Standards and instructional best practices. Understanding of curriculum development, assessment methods, and differentiated instruction. Excellent classroom management and student engagement skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, families, and community stakeholders. Knowledge of educational technology platforms and learning management systems. Ability to analyze student data and adjust instructional practices accordingly. Strong organizational and time management skills. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to lift instructional materials and classroom supplies. Ability to supervise students in various school environments, including classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, and outdoor settings.
