Sunshine Acres Camp & Conference Center

Camp Director, Summer Camp & All Year Round Conference Center

Job Description

Job available currently (just until the camp gets back on its feet) Solicited groups (pay on a stipend basis) Opportunity for pay to cook for the group (on a per retreat basis) Opportunity for pay to clean lodge (on a per retreat basis) We are a camp & conference center which was closed for a few years from 2021-2024 because of a flood in the main lodge. We since re-did that building and are now open for conferences & a summer camp. We have been hosting retreats already but haven't re-started the summer camp just yet and we don't have the conference or retreats fully booked up throughout the year, so we are seeking a person who can reignite this. It's a beautiful property but it needs someone there to take care of it, and someone to solicit churches and Christian groups for retreats to provide the proper funds to support. Sunshine Acres has been in existence for 125 years and has a long standing alumni. There are volunteers ready to go to help get the summer program started again and are available for work weekends. The camp also had a summer camp. We are seeking to start this up as well. A 2 - 1 week camps for next summer as a start-off back into summer camping. Our mission was to give underprivileged children in the NY metro area a summer camp experience. We do have paid and not paid slots for Christian children and our mission is to give them the Gospel and minister to them with a Christian camping environment. Since money is tight right now we are willing to pay on commission as the 3-seasons retreat groups get booked. This would provide us a start-off back on the map and hopefully this can quickly provide a proper salary and long term leader to work on growing the ministry. The camp has a built in pool, 4 duplex log cabins, a gym, a field, a chapel, woods, a creek, a lodge, a full professional kitchen/dining room to accompany around 100 people at one time. The main building that used to house a full time person is unfortunately in disrepair to the point of no return and we are unable to have anyone live there. Right now at the end of the lodge is an apartment where we could have a small family. We can fundraise to have another building made for a full time person so this would be, Lord willing, temporary. The job would be some maintenance, hosting retreats and soliciting or arranging retreats and then in the summer time for the duration of the summer camp would be the overall director of that summer program along with a larger staff and program director to work alongside the camp director. Plenty of food is always left over from the retreats that can be provided, and a camp truck is always there. Housing, and utilities are always provided. Extra money can be provided if someone can cook and clean the lodge after the retreat groups are done so there are more opportunities for pay. Currently we hire out for those positions but they are at a per-retreat basis. We can easily bring up a dozen volunteers a few times a year for work weekends to get some work done on the property so a camp director will not be solely alone in this endeavor. This includes skilled workers. We are seeking a mature person. A young person or older person is welcome for this position. There is a working board that has been running the camp so we can put together contacts and all year round responsibilities about the property, things you would need to know about each building and timelines. Must be a born-again Christian. We may send you to get trained for some certificates to help get the summer program requirements fulfilled. Job Summary We are seeking a dynamic and energetic Camp Director to lead our Summer Camp and All Year Round Conference Center. This pivotal role involves overseeing the daily operations of the camp, designing engaging youth programs, and ensuring a safe, nurturing environment for children and teens.
