Job Description

Substitute TeacherPosition Summary Evergreen Children's Academy seeks dependable, nurturing Substitute Teachers to provide high-quality classroom support for children ages 2-5 in a nature-based, play-driven environment. Substitute Teachers maintain continuity of care by following classroom routines, supporting children's social-emotional well-being, and ensuring a safe, calm, and engaging learning environment in the absence of regular teaching staff. This role is ideal for educators who are flexible, professional, and able to quickly adapt to different classrooms while upholding Evergreen's mission, values, and expectations. Program Director Employment Status:
At-Will Core ResponsibilitiesChild Development & Classroom Support Follow lesson plans, daily schedules, and classroom routines provided by the Lead Teacher or Director. Provide warm, responsive care and supervision for children ages 2-5. Support children's social-emotional development using respectful, positive guidance. Encourage independence, exploration, and child-led learning through play. Maintain active supervision of children at all times, indoors and outdoors. Ensure compliance with required teacher-to-child ratios. Assist with transitions, meals, toileting, rest time, outdoor play, and classroom activities. Health, Safety & Compliance Adhere to all California Community Care Licensing (Title 22) regulations. Follow Evergreen's health, safety, sanitation, and emergency procedures. Immediately report injuries, illnesses, behavioral concerns, or safety hazards to administration. Complete required documentation, including incident reports, as directed. Serve as a Mandated Reporter under California law. Maintain current CPR and First Aid certification (or obtain within required timeframe). Classroom Care Help maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming classroom. Sanitize materials and assist with daily classroom setup and reset. Respect classroom organization and return materials to their designated locations. Support care of classroom materials and outdoor learning environments. Team Collaboration Work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and support staff. Accept classroom assignments based on the needs of the program. Communicate professionally with staff regarding classroom needs and observations. Support school-wide activities and classroom coverage as requested. Family Interaction Greet families warmly and professionally. Refer questions regarding children's progress, behavior, enrollment, or school policies to the Lead Teacher or Director. Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all children, families, and school operations. Work Expectations Work schedules vary based on program needs and substitute availability. Arrive on time and prepared to work in any classroom serving children ages 2-5. Demonstrate flexibility and professionalism when assigned to different classrooms or duties. Use school communication platforms (e.g., Brightwheel or similar) when directed. Follow all Evergreen Children's Academy policies and procedures. Qualifications Minimum of 12 ECE units preferred (or qualifications consistent with California Community Care Licensing requirements for the assigned role). Experience working with children ages 2-5 preferred. Strong understanding of child development. Ability to remain calm, flexible, and dependable in a dynamic environment. Excellent communication and teamwork skills. CPR/First Aid certified (or willingness to obtain if required). Current TB clearance, required immunizations, and fingerprint clearance. Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 40 pounds. Ability to sit, kneel, bend, and move quickly as needed. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Compensation Compensation is hourly and commensurate with experience. Substitute Teachers are eligible for benefits as required by applicable law and as outlined in Evergreen Children's Academy policies.
