ABOUT US
Little People's Playhouse is a licensed childcare center serving children from birth through school age. Established in 1997, we've spent 29 years building a strong reputation in our community. We're six classrooms — Infants, Walkers, Toddlers, Beginning Preschool, Preschool, and GSRP — and we're expanding our leadership team.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We're looking for an Assistant Director who genuinely loves developing people. This isn't just an administrative support role — it's a coaching role. You'll work side-by-side with our Center Director to raise the bar in every classroom by mentoring, training, and holding our teaching staff to high standards, while helping us stay ahead of licensing and quality requirements.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Coach and mentor lead and assistant teachers across all six classrooms, providing hands-on modeling, feedback, and follow-through
Support classroom walk-throughs and observations, identifying coaching opportunities and tracking growth over time
Help onboard and train new hires, ensuring they're set up to succeed from day one
Assist with maintaining Michigan LARA licensing compliance and Great Start to Quality standards
Support Creative Curriculum and GOLD assessment implementation across classrooms
Help enforce center policies and SOPs, and support accountability documentation when needed
Step in as a regulatory-qualified staff member as needed to support licensing coverage
Partner with the Center Director on staff scheduling, family communication, and day-to-day operations
Help lead staff meetings, trainings, and huddles focused on classroom quality and team culture
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
A genuine passion for coaching, training, and developing teachers — not just managing tasks
Experience in early childhood education, ideally with some leadership, mentoring, or training experience
Working knowledge of (or willingness to learn) Michigan childcare licensing requirements
Strong communicator who can give direct, constructive feedback with warmth
Highly organized, dependable, and comfortable with documentation and follow-through
Meets Michigan qualifications to serve as a Director or Assistant Director under state licensing rules
A team player who leads by example on the floor, not just from behind a desk
WHY JOIN US
Be part of a well-established center with 28 years of history and a strong reputation in the community
Real opportunity to shape teacher development and classroom culture across the center
Work closely with center leadership in a hands-on, high-trust role
Full-time position with a stable, respected employer
