This position may contain some administrative duties, in addition to in class responsibilities. Willing to train the right candidate! Have the ability to multi task. Have the ability to exercise tact, discretion and confidentiality. Be comfortable outdoors in a variety of weather. Responsibilities Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to, the following: Assist in planning and implementing the daily program. Supervise the children in their care at all times. Help with the general housekeeping tasks. Maintain a professional attitude and loyalty to the center at all times. Treat all children and fellow co-workers with dignity and respect. Properly implement appropriate early childhood education experiences. Supervise and promote activities designed to enhance the healthy emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development of children enrolled at the Center. Help to maintain a neat and organized classroom. Change diapers and assist with toilet training. Supervise all activities to ensure safety at all times. Report to Director any problem that may occur with the children. Observe, record, and report on the behavior of individual children as assigned. Assist the Director with light administrative duties. Physical Requirements Must have the ability to: Lift up to 40 lbs. Repetitive bending, stretching, and stooping. Climb up and down stairs. Have mobility required to ensure the safety of the children. Work with children on the floor. Work outdoors in any variety of weather. Have visual and hearing capabilities that allow consistent supervision of children with childcare licensing safety requirements. Perform light duty cleaning. Must be able to pass a background check. About Sandy Hook Child Care Center Celebrating over 40-years of affordable childcare and preschool, SHCCC was created as a nonprofit center in 1980 by parents working at the James J. Howard Marine Sciences Laboratory. The goal was and continues to be to offer quality childcare to parents from Sandy Hook and local communities. The Center is a non-profit organization fully licensed for 15 children per day by the State of New Jersey. Our teachers take an individual approach with each child, fostering independence and respecting each child's emerging personality, talents, sensitivities, and abilities. We develop routines that frame our day: setting the table and clearing our dishes, working the garden, enjoying a craft, reading, dancing, singing, and more. Special emphasis is placed on positive social interactions between the children, while giving them the guidance and tools to solve their own problems and develop respect for one another and the planet. Our environment is our curriculum, with age appropriate activities emerging as the children develop, based on reading, math, science, as well as their interests and the space around us. The environment plays an important role in the young lives of the children. In the spring and summer months, we are able to care for our vegetables and flower gardens and our lessons incorporate learning about vegetables, plants, fruit, insects, and wildlife as well as many other interesting themes.
