Early Childhood Classroom Coach and Child Development Specialist

Job Description

Job Summary Do you have a passion for helping teachers succeed and children thrive? Join our Head Start team as a Learning Engagement & Wellness Coordinator , where you'll help strengthen classroom quality, support children's social-emotional development, and coach educators to create engaging, nurturing learning environments. This unique position combines instructional coaching, behavioral support, classroom quality improvement, safety compliance, and youth development. You'll work closely with preschool teachers serving approximately 112 children across seven classrooms , while also coordinating Project Discovery , a college and career exploration program serving middle and high school students. What You'll Do Support Exceptional Early Learning Coach preschool teachers using Practice-Based Coaching (PBC) to improve instructional practices. Conduct classroom observations using the CLASS (Classroom Assessment Scoring System) and provide supportive feedback. Help implement Conscious Discipline and PBIS-aligned strategies to strengthen social- emotional learning and positive behavior. Collaborate with teachers, families, mental health consultants, and leadership to develop individualized behavior support plans. Promote developmentally appropriate, engaging, and inclusive learning environments. Promote Safe, High-Quality Programs Conduct classroom, playground, and facility inspections. Provide classroom coverage when needed. Coordinate Project Discovery , helping middle and high school students. Participate in college visits, career and technical education tours, and community service projects. Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Psychology, Education, Social Work, or a related field with appropriate early childhood coursework. Minimum two years of experience working with children or youth in an educational or licensed early childhood setting. Knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practice. Strong communication, organization, and coaching skills. Ability to obtain CLASS Certification within one year. Completion of the Practiced-Based Coaching Training Institute. Valid driver's license and ability to travel throughout the service area. Proficiency with Microsoft Office. Successful completion of all required background checks. Preferred Experience coaching teachers or supporting classroom quality improvement. Knowledge of Virginia child care licensing regulations. Pay:
$49,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
