Company-Sponsored Health Insurance | Generous Paid Time Off Position Summary TAKE is seeking a creative and engaging Academic & Applied Learning Instructor for our YouthBuild St. Clair County program serving opportunity youth ages 16-24. The instructor provides academic instruction, remediation, and individualized support to prepare participants for high school diploma completion or HiSET/high school equivalency readiness . Because participants may have significant academic gaps, learning differences, IEP histories, or difficulty in traditional classrooms, instruction should be creative, hands-on, project-based, and connected to real life . The instructor also works with construction staff to reinforce academic concepts participants are learning through vocational training. This position does not provide physical construction training. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Provide instruction and remediation in reading, writing, math, science, social studies, technology, and foundational academic skills . Prepare participants for diploma completion and HiSET/high school equivalency readiness , including test preparation and remediation. Assess academic levels and provide individualized and small-group support. Develop creative, project-based, hands-on, and real-world learning activities for participants with varying academic needs and learning styles. Connect academics to construction, employment, independent living, and everyday life . Collaborate with construction instructors to reinforce concepts from HBI PACT, OSHA, MC3, and other vocational training through applied math, measurement, technical reading, vocabulary, science, technology, and problem-solving. Monitor participant progress and adjust instruction as needed. Maintain required academic assessments, progress records, and program documentation. Collaborate with YouthBuild staff to support participant education, credential attainment, and future goals. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree required. Experience in academic instruction, remediation, tutoring, adult/alternative education, high school equivalency preparation, or a related educational setting. Experience working with opportunity youth, out-of-school youth, adult learners, or individuals with significant educational barriers. Ability to support multiple academic subjects and learners at varying skill levels. Strong classroom management, relationship-building, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to make learning engaging, practical, and relevant . Preferred Experience HiSET, GED, or high school equivalency preparation. Reading and mathematics remediation. Special education or experience supporting learners with IEPs or learning disabilities. Adult, alternative, credit recovery, or nontraditional education. Project-based or experiential learning. Integrating academic and vocational education.
