Summary The Directr f Secndary Literacy prvides strategic leadership fr literacy instructin in grades 6–12 thrugh the implementatin f the Science f Reading, evidence-based literacy practices, disciplinary literacy, writing, cmmunicatin, and critical thinking acrss all cntent areas. The Directr ensures students develp the literacy skills necessary fr academic success, pstsecndary readiness, career preparatin, and civic engagement thrugh high-quality Tier I instructin and equitable access t rigrus learning pprtunities. The Directr leads districtwide reading and writing initiatives, supprts the implementatin f high-quality instructinal materials, and builds the cntent knwledge, instructinal expertise, and leadership capacity f teachers and administratrs t ensure rigrus, standards-aligned Tier I literacy instructin acrss all secndary classrms. The Directr develps systems that prmte literacy achievement, implementatin fidelity, and cntinuus imprvement while cllabrating with schl and district leaders t strengthen literacy instructin acrss all cntent areas and ensure students are prepared t read, write, cmmunicate, and think critically in cllege, career, and life.

Essential Duties and Respnsibilities:

Leadership and Prgram Develpment Lead the develpment, implementatin, mnitring, and evaluatin f the district's Grades 6–12 literacy framew rk. Lead the implementatin f the Science f Reading and evidence-based literacy practices acrss secndary sch ls. Ensure literacy curriculum, instructin, assessment, and interventin systems are aligned t Pennsylvania Academic Standards and district pri rities. Lead and supp rt district-wide reading initiatives and writing initiatives. Cllabrate with curriculum departments t embed literacy practices acrss all c ntent areas. versee the implementatin and mnitring f high-quality instructinal materials aligned t district literacy gals. Instructinal Leadership Demnstrate knwledge f literacy develpment, assessment, interventin, and instructinal practices acr ss grades 6–12. Supprt teachers in implementing evidence-based literacy practices that strengthen: Reading Cmprehensi n Academic V cabulary Writing Critical Thinking Academic Disc urse Kn wledge Building Disciplinary Literacy Build cntent and pedaggical capacity f teachers and leaders t ensure literacy instructinal rigr in Tier I instructi n. Supprt literacy integratin acrss English Language Arts, Science, Scial Studies, Mathematics, Career and Technical Educatin, the Arts, and elective c urses. Supprt implementatin f Multi-Tiered Systems f Supprt (MTSS) t ensure students receive timely and apprpriate literacy interventins. Prfessinal Learning and Caching Design, facilitate, and evaluate prfessinal learning pprtunities grunded in adult learning thery and evidence-based prfessinal devel pment practices. Participate in and supprt instructinal caching cycles including classrm bservatins, c-planning, mdeling, feedback cnversati ns, and reflective practice. Cllabrate with principals, instructinal caches, department chairs, and teacher leaders t strengthen instructinal practice and imprve student utc mes. Develp and supprt prfessinal learning cmmunities fcused n literacy implementatin and cntinuus imprvement. Assessment and Cntinuus Imprvement Analyze student achievement, assessment, and implementatin data t identify trends, mnitr prgress, and drive cntinuus imprvement eff rts. Utilize district assessment systems and data management platfrms t mnitr literacy achievement and infrm instructinal decisi n-making. Lead the develpment and implementatin f literacy assessments and prgress-mnit ring systems. Recmmend instructinal resurces, interventins, and supprts based n student perf rmance data and evidence-based practices. Prmte the effective use f educatinal technlgy and digital resurces t enhance literacy instructin, assessment, interventin, and prgress mnitring.
