Adaptive Riding Instructor NDR Therapeutic Riding & Therapy Services Norco, CA Job Details Part-time $20 an hour 4 hours ago Qualifications CPR Certification Horse care Teamwork Experience working with individuals with disabilities Outdoor work experience Swimming Child safety supervision Safety hazards Animal-assisted therapy Teaching Safety protocol implementation Full Job Description NDR Therapeutic Riding is looking for a dependable, compassionate, and skilled Adaptive Riding Instructor to join our team. This position is ideal for someone who has a strong background in horses and riding and enjoys helping individuals of all abilities develop confidence, independence, horsemanship, and riding skills. The Adaptive Riding Instructor is responsible for providing safe, effective, and engaging adaptive riding lessons while maintaining the highest standards of participant, volunteer, and equine safety. Position Responsibilities Plan and provide safe, structured adaptive riding lessons for individuals and groups with a variety of abilities and needs. Modify riding activities, instruction, equipment, and lesson plans to meet each participant's individual needs and goals. Assess participant abilities and work toward appropriate riding and horsemanship goals. Select appropriate horses, tack, and adaptive equipment for each participant and lesson. Safely handle, groom, tack, and care for horses before, during, and after lessons. Monitor horse and participant behavior and safety throughout each session. Provide clear direction and supervision to volunteers assisting with lessons. Communicate professionally and respectfully with participants, parents/caregivers, volunteers, and NDR staff. Complete accurate and timely participant documentation, including session notes, attendance, progress, and other required records. Follow all NDR policies, procedures, safety requirements, and lesson protocols. Follow applicable PATH Intl. standards and best practices for adaptive/therapeutic riding. Participate in staff meetings, trainings, continuing education, and professional development. Assist with maintaining a clean, safe, and organized arena, tack room, barn, and program areas. Assist with horse-related duties and other program responsibilities as assigned. Respond appropriately to safety concerns and emergencies. Maintain a positive, professional, and team-oriented attitude. Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or designated supervisor.
Qualifications Required:
Strong horse-handling and horsemanship skills. Experience riding and working with horses. Experience teaching riding lessons or working in an equestrian program. Ability to safely handle horses in a therapeutic/adaptive riding environment. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively with participants, families, volunteers, and staff. Dependable, punctual, responsible, and able to work as part of a team. Ability to work outdoors and perform physically demanding horse and facility-related duties. Ability to follow safety procedures and NDR policies and procedures. Must be willing to learn and follow PATH Intl. standards and NDR program protocols.
Preferred:
PATH Intl. Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor (CTRI) certification. PATH Intl. Instructor-in-Training status or previous experience working toward PATH Intl. certification. Experience teaching individuals with disabilities or other adaptive needs. Experience working in a therapeutic riding, adaptive riding, or equine-assisted services program. Current CPR and First Aid certification. Two or more years of riding instruction or professional equine experience. PATH Intl. certification is preferred; qualified candidates who are not currently certified may be considered if they have strong horsemanship and teaching experience and are willing to pursue certification. Physical Requirements This position requires the ability to: Safely handle and control horses. Groom, tack, untack, and care for horses. Stand and walk for extended periods. Work in an outdoor ranch environment in varying weather conditions. Bend, kneel, reach, and perform routine barn and horse-care activities. Assist with adaptive riding activities as required. Lift and carry equipment and supplies as needed. Respond quickly to safety situations involving horses, participants, or volunteers.
