Skating Instructor

Job Description

Instruct ice skating lessons at indoor facility for youth and adults in city recreation program. This position is responsible for teaching and demonstrating beginning, advanced basics and freestyle ice skating. 1. Instruct ice skating lessons. 2. Assist Head Skating Instructor or other higher level instructors in the evaluation of students. 3. Oversee the work of assistant instructors in class. 4. Answer questions from parents, students and other staff. 5. Attend scheduled programs consistently. 6. Serve as role model and mentor for program participants. 7. Perform special duties as assigned including choreography and assistance with skating shows, exhibitions and test sessions.
  • Must have at least one session (7-10 week course periods) of experience as an ice skating instructor with the ISI program or equivalent.
  • Other combinations of training and/or experience which can be demonstrated to result in the possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of this position will also be considered.
  • Must have a current ISI Professional membership and minimum of a Bronze Judge certification or ability to obtain with 60 days of employment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with people from all cultures and backgrounds.
  • Must have availability evenings and weekends.
  • Knowledge of ISI (Ice Skating Institute) skating programs.
  • Knowledge of effective teaching and demonstration procedures and techniques for all age levels.
  • Ability to demonstrate, teach, and evaluate skating techniques of students individually and in groups.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff, students and parents.
  • Experience with team skating and/or teaching group choreography.
  • Experience teaching freestyle skills higher than single jumps.
