Middle School Outdoor Learning Teacher Position Overview We are seeking an enthusiastic and creative Outdoor Learning Teacher to design and lead an innovative outdoor education program for middle school students. Located near the scenic forested and mountainous regions of Claremont, NH, our school campus offers a unique opportunity to connect core academic and social-emotional learning with the natural environment. This educator will help students build confidence, resilience, and leadership skills through four-season outdoor experiences.
Key Responsibilities Curriculum Design:
Develop and implement hands-on, experiential learning opportunities connected to environmental science, sustainability, ecology, and team-building.
Outdoor Skills Training:
Teach outdoor safety, navigation, and outdoor recreation skills (e.g., hiking, biking, snowshoeing, winter ecology) tailored to all four New Hampshire seasons.
Cross-Curricular Integration:
Collaborate with core classroom teachers to integrate outdoor lessons into subjects like math, science, and language arts.
Risk Management:
Assess and manage safety risks associated with outdoor activities and provide basic first aid when necessary.
Community Building:
Foster a safe, inclusive environment that encourages student empowerment, independence, and positive peer relationships.
Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Outdoor Education, Environmental Science, Education, or a related field is [referred
Experience:
Prior experience teaching or leading youth groups in educational or outdoor settings is ideal
Certifications:
Current CPR and First Aid certification is also ideal
Physical Requirements:
Ability to spend extended periods outdoors in all New Hampshire weather conditions and walk comfortably on uneven terrain.
