Martial Arts Instructor (Karate & Taekwondo) - Job Overview Position Summary The Martial Arts Instructor is responsible for teaching high-quality Karate and Taekwondo classes to students of all ages and skill levels in a safe, positive, and disciplined environment. The instructor serves as a role model by demonstrating professionalism, integrity, respect, and a commitment to personal growth while helping students develop confidence, self-discipline, physical fitness, and strong character. Primary Responsibilities Plan and conduct engaging Karate and or Taekwondo classes for children, teens, and adults. Teach proper techniques, forms (Kata/Poomsae), sparring, self-defense, and martial arts fundamentals. Ensure all classes are conducted safely while following school safety policies and procedures. Evaluate student progress and recommend rank advancement when appropriate. Encourage discipline, respect, confidence, and perseverance in every student. Modify instruction to accommodate different ages, experience levels, and physical abilities. Maintain a positive, motivating, and professional training atmosphere. Assist with belt testing, tournaments, demonstrations, seminars, and special events. Maintain accurate attendance records and student evaluations. Communicate professionally with students and parents regarding progress and expectations. Keep the training facility clean, organized, and ready for instruction. Promote school programs, student retention, and a welcoming environment for prospective members. Required Qualifications Black Belt in Karate, Taekwondo, or a recognized martial arts system. Previous teaching or assistant instructor experience preferred. Strong knowledge of martial arts techniques, safety practices, and training methods. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to motivate students of all ages. Professional appearance and positive attitude. Reliable, punctual, and dependable. Ability to pass a background check if working with minors. Preferred Qualifications CPR and First Aid Certification. Tournament competition or coaching experience. Experience teaching children, teens, and adults. Leadership or instructor certification through a recognized martial arts organization. Physical Requirements Demonstrate martial arts techniques safely and effectively. Stand, walk, bend, kick, and perform physical movements throughout multiple classes. Lift and move training equipment weighing up to 40 pounds. Maintain sufficient endurance to teach several classes per day.
