Open Door Education is seeking a warm, knowledgeable Academic Coach to work one-on-one with middle school and early high school students who benefit from additional structure, organization, and academic support. Many of our students have ADHD, dyslexia, executive function challenges, anxiety, or other learning differences. Others simply need a caring educator who can help them develop the habits, confidence, and strategies necessary for long-term success. This role combines executive function coaching with academic tutoring. While coaches should be comfortable supporting core middle school subjects and curriculum through 9th grade, the primary focus is helping students become more organized, independent, and effective learners. We're especially interested in educators with special education backgrounds and experience supporting students with diverse learning profiles. RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide individualized academic coaching and tutoring for students in grades 5-9 Help students develop executive function skills, including organization, planning, time management, task initiation, study skills, and self-monitoring Support students with homework, projects, and curriculum across core subjects through Algebra I and 9th-grade English Develop personalized strategies that build independence and confidence over time Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and recommendations Collaborate with our educational team to ensure students receive thoughtful, coordinated support Foster a warm, encouraging, and positive learning environment where students feel understood and capable
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred Massachusetts teaching license strongly preferred Special Education certification strongly preferred At least 2 years of classroom teaching, special education, intervention, or related educational experience Experience working with students with ADHD, dyslexia, executive function challenges, anxiety, autism spectrum disorders, or other learning differences Familiarity with IEPs, 504 Plans, accommodations, and evidence-based instructional practices Additional specialized training is highly valued, including: Orton-Gillingham Wilson Reading System Lindamood-Bell Executive Function coaching Structured literacy Educational therapy or related certifications Excellent communication and relationship-building skills A patient, encouraging, and dependable approach that helps students feel successful Ability to provide in-person sessions at our Acton office during after-school hours

Pay:
$47.00 per hour Application Question(s): Are you able to work with students during after-school and evening hours? Do you have familiarity with IEPs, 504 Plans, accommodations, and evidence-based instructional practices? Are you able to work with students in person at our Acton, Massachusetts office?
