Job Description

State Street Academy is hiring a full time High School Special Education Teacher to join the team. Must have Michigan Teacher Certification and endorsement. State Street Academy is a K-11 charter school located in Bay City, Michigan. Our mission is to encourage students to do their personal best by offering education in a safe and caring environment. The curriculum prepares students to solve problems both individually and collaboratively, using critical thinking skills and cultivated through comparative, inter displinary study. We are seeking a full-time Special Education Teacher to join our team. The Special Education Teacher will be responsible for providing instruction and support to students with special needs, ensuring that they receive appropriate educational services and accommodations.
Responsibilities:
Essential Duties:
Develop and implement comprehensive lesson plans that meet the curriculum standards and cater to diverse learning styles. Develop assessments and evaluate student performance through various methods, including tests, quizzes, projects, and presentations. Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs. Deliver direct instruction to students in various settings, including one-on-one, small group, and co-taught classrooms, using evidence-based strategies tailored to students' learning profiles. Provide specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities, including academic, behavioral, and social-emotional interventions. Collaborate with general education teachers and other school staff to ensure that students with special needs are included in all aspects of school life. Monitor and assess student progress, adjusting instruction and interventions as needed. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress and services provided. Stay up-to-date on best practices and research related to special education and disabilities. Participate in school activities, meetings, and events to contribute to the overall mission of the institution. Maintain a safe and positive environment for all students Maintain effective communication with students, parents, and school staff Regular and predictable attendance
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Special Education. A master's degree is a plus. Valid teaching certification/license in Michigan for secondary education with an endorsement in Special Education Experience working with students with disabilities, including experience developing and implementing IEPs Strong knowledge of best practices and research related to special education and disabilities Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in planning and assessing educational activities
Responsibilities:
Create and implement engaging lesson plans that align with state standards Foster a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students Assess student progress and adjust teaching strategies as needed Communicate regularly with parents and guardians about student progress and behavior Collaborate with other teachers and staff to create a cohesive and supportive learning community Attend and participate in staff meetings, professional development opportunities, and parent-teacher conferences Maintain accurate records of student attendance and academic progress Provide additional support and resources to students who need extra help Participate in school-wide events and activities, such as field trips and assemblies
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Education Michigan teaching certification with endorsement in subject Strong communication and interpersonal skills Knowledge of state standards and curriculum requirements Passion for teaching and a commitment to student success.
