Job Description

Support Teachers. Encourage Children. Strengthen Early Learning. Do you enjoy working with children, adapting to new situations, and being part of a team? Join the YMCA of Avery County as an ELC Floating Teacher and help create safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environments for children throughout our Early Learning Center. As a Floating Teacher, you'll play an important role in supporting classrooms and teachers where they're needed most. From helping with daily activities to providing coverage and caring for children across different age groups, you'll help ensure children receive consistent, high-quality care every day. What You'll Do Support Lead and Assistant Teachers across different classrooms and age groups based on the needs of the center. Supervise, engage, and care for children while maintaining a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment. Help implement daily activities, routines, and learning experiences that encourage children's growth and development. Provide coverage for teachers during breaks, absences, and other staffing needs. Build positive relationships with children, families, and fellow team members. Help maintain clean, organized classrooms and complete required attendance, incident, and other documentation. What You'll Bring High school diploma or equivalent. Must meet North Carolina Assistant Teacher qualifications as required by state regulations. Previous experience working with children or in an early childhood setting is preferred but not required. CPR and First Aid certification or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire. Patience, flexibility, compassion, and a genuine interest in helping young children learn and grow. Strong communication and teamwork skills.
