Teacher / Instructional
Support Russellville, AL $90/day Substitute / On-Demand We usually respond within a day About this role Position schedule will be based on the school's standard schedule. While some districts may offer opportunities outside of the regular school schedule, these are not guaranteed and opportunities will be limited. This position will provide instruction, manage the classroom environment, and promote student learning in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. Job Duties may include
  • Implementing teacher lesson plans
  • Assigns students classwork and homework
  • Maintain classroom control and discipline
  • Creating a daily report for the classroom teacher each day
  • Taking attendance in accordance with school procedures
  • Setting up basic technology equipment to support classroom instruction
  • Follow all school rules and procedures
  • Performing other duties as assigned A Day in the Life A typical day as a Substitute Teacher with Russellville City Schools begins with an early morning arrival to the assigned school, where you'll check in with the front office, review any notes or lesson plans left by the regular classroom teacher, and prepare the classroom for the day ahead.
You'll take attendance in accordance with school procedures and set up any basic technology equipment needed to support instruction. Throughout the day, you'll guide students through their assigned lessons, facilitate classwork and homework assignments, and maintain a structured, respectful classroom environment that keeps students focused and on task. You'll maintain classroom control and discipline while implementing the teacher's lesson plans, ensuring that the day runs as smoothly as possible. At the end of the day, you'll tidy up the classroom and complete a daily report for the classroom teacher summarizing how the day went, student behavior, and any notable events. Success in this role looks like students who feel supported and engaged, a classroom that stayed on track, and a teacher who returns to a well-documented, organized room. Responsibilities Implement teacher-prepared lesson plans to ensure instructional continuity during the regular teacher's absence Assign and oversee classwork and homework as directed by the classroom teacher's plans Maintain classroom control and discipline, fostering a safe and respectful learning environment Complete and submit a detailed daily report to the classroom teacher at the end of each assignment Take attendance accurately and in accordance with school and district procedures Set up and operate basic classroom technology equipment to support instructional delivery Follow all school rules, policies, and procedures throughout the school day Communicate effectively with school staff, administrators, and students to ensure a smooth and productive school day Adapt quickly to different grade levels, subject areas, and classroom environments as assignments vary Check in with the front office upon arrival Review any notes or lesson plans left by the regular classroom teacher Prepare the classroom for the day ahead Tidy up the classroom at the end of the day Requirements Required ! Completion of Jason Flatt Act Training (suicide awareness and prevention training required by Alabama law) ! Completion of Erin's Law Online Training (child sexual abuse prevention training required by Alabama law) ! Cleared ALSDE Background Check (Alabama State Department of Education background screening) ! Valid ALSDE Teaching Certificate or Alabama Substitute Teacher License (one or the other may apply depending on candidate qualifications) ! High school diploma or equivalent ! Ability to report to assigned school on short notice and work on an on-call basis ! Ability to lift heavy objects up to 40 lbs. Preferred Prior related experience working with children in an educational, childcare, or youth-serving setting Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field Familiarity with classroom management strategies and basic instructional techniques Experience working across multiple grade levels or subject areas Comfort with basic classroom technology tools such as projectors, smartboards, or learning management systems Some college coursework or degree Benefits of joining Spur Weekly Pay Get paid every Friday via direct deposit or Spur pay card.
