BASIC FUNCTION
Under the direction of an administrator, in the absence of the classroom teacher, provide instruction, encourage student progress and manage the learning environment. Demonstrate professional practices in teaching using the course of study and lesson plan provided by the regular classroom teacher.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Implements lesson plans, while ensuring the integrity of the academic time and in a matter which motivates students to learn and participate. Collects homework and student assignments as directed for the regular classroom teacher Maintains and respects confidentiality of student and school personnel information Maintains a discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff Reports all student injuries, accidents and illnesses to the proper school administrators immediately or as soon as possible Follow directives from school administrators Reports to the Main Office upon arrival at school; meets with school secretary for direction and room key; checks mailbox of absent teacher for lesson plans and materials; requests clarification of school rules and district policies, if necessary Returns the room key to the school secretary and instructional materials and equipment to the proper place

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES KNOWLEDGE OF
Safe practices in classroom activities Basic instructional methods and techniques Classroom procedures and appropriate student conduct Operation of standard office and classroom equipment including a computer and assigned software Oral and written communication skills Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy Correct Engligh usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary Record-keeping and filing techniques
ABILITY TO
Implement a lesson plan to students in grades K-8 Assist in the preparation of instructional materials and implementation of instructional activities Perform a variety of clerical duties including typing, filing and duplicating materials Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others Communicate effectively both orally and in writing Monitor, observe and report student behavior and progress according to approved policies and procedures Understand and relate to students in grades K-8 Observe health and safety regulations Maintain records and files Understand and follow oral and written instructions Operate standard office and classroom equipment including a computer and assigned software
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree in any subject CBEST verification Prior experience working with students in grades K-8 desired
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Valid California Single Subject or Multiple Subject Teaching Credential or 30-Day Emergency Substitute Permit California Department of Justice criminal background check TB results completed within the last 12 months
