Job Description

Building Substitute Teacher Brass City Charter School - Waterbury, CT Brass City Charter School (BCCS), a small PK-8 public charter school in Waterbury, is seeking a dependable, flexible, and student-focused Building Substitute Teacher to join our team. This is a full-time, school-year position , not a per-diem substitute role. The Building Substitute reports to school each day and provides classroom coverage wherever needed. Depending on the day, you may work with different teachers, students, and grade levels throughout the school. Because you are part of our regular staff, you will get to know our students, routines, and school community—making it much easier to step into a classroom and provide consistency when a teacher or other instructional staff member is absent. What You'll Do Provide classroom coverage for absent teachers and other instructional staff as assigned. Follow lesson plans and instructional materials provided by the classroom teacher. Maintain established classroom routines, expectations, and behavior standards. Support students in completing assigned academic work. Supervise students during classroom instruction, transitions, lunch, recess, arrival, dismissal, and other school activities. Work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, classroom assistants, student support staff, and other members of the school team. Provide additional classroom or schoolwide support on days when substitute coverage is not needed. Maintain student confidentiality and follow school policies and procedures. Perform other duties related to student supervision and school operations as assigned. What We're Looking For Bachelor's degree required. Experience working with children in a school, childcare, youth program, or similar setting preferred. Ability to work effectively with students across multiple grade levels. Strong communication, organization, and classroom-management skills. Dependability and consistent attendance. Flexibility and the ability to adjust to different classrooms and assignments. A collaborative approach and willingness to be an active member of the school team. Ability to meet all applicable State of Connecticut and school employment requirements. Why a Building Substitute Position? A Building Substitute offers something different from traditional substitute teaching: you belong to one school community. Instead of reporting to unfamiliar schools each day, you become part of the BCCS team. You learn our routines, build relationships with students and staff, and provide students with a familiar adult when their regular teacher is absent.
