09/25/2026 140 per day to 551.38 per day Position Overview Cape Elizabeth High School is seeking a dedicated, student-centered, full-time Long-Term Substitute English Teacher to join our faculty for an upcoming leave from October 26 through December 22 . The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong background in English Language Arts, a commitment to high academic standards, and the ability to foster engaging, inclusive, and collaborative learning environments for grades 9�12.
Key Responsibilities Instruction & Curriculum:
Teach high school English courses, incorporating classic and contemporary fiction, non-fiction, analytical writing, and media literacy/film study.
Classroom Engagement:
Foster positive, respectful relationships with high school students while maintaining structured classroom management and high expectations.
Collaboration:
Work closely and collectively with English department colleagues and school staff to align instructional goals, grading practices, and student supports.
Student Assessment:
Prepare and implement thoughtful assignments/assessments, provide prompt and constructive feedback on student writing and projects, and maintain accurate academic records.
Qualifications & Requirements Certification:
State of Maine English/Language Arts (7�12) Teacher Certification (7-12 / 020) preferred.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in English, English Education, Literature, or a closely related field.
Experience:
Previous successful teaching experience at the high school level is strongly preferred.
Subject Matter Expertise:
Strong knowledge of literary analysis, writing pedagogy, and contemporary educational practices. Demonstrated interest and background in classic and contemporary fiction, non-fiction analysis, and film study/visual media literacy.
