Position Summary The Substitute Teacher provides classroom instruction, supervision, and support during the absence of a regular classroom teacher or as otherwise needed to support School operations. Substitute Teachers may work with students across Early Childhood, Lower School, Middle School, and Upper School based on experience, availability, and School needs. This is an on-call, as-needed position. Work assignments and hours are not guaranteed and may vary based on daily staffing and coverage needs. Essential Functions Implement lesson plans and instructional activities provided by the classroom teacher or Division Head Provide appropriate supervision of students and maintain established classroom routines, expectations, and behavioral standards Foster a safe, respectful, inclusive, and supportive learning environment consistent with the School's mission, values, and expectations Follow instructions, schedules, procedures, and other guidance provided by the classroom teacher, Division Head, or other School administrator Monitor student behavior and respond appropriately to behavioral, safety, medical, or other concerns in accordance with School procedures Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and protect the confidentiality and privacy of student, family, and School information Complete attendance, classroom notes, incident documentation, or other records as requested Communicate relevant information regarding the school day, student concerns, or classroom issues to the classroom teacher, Division Head, or appropriate administrator Assist with student supervision and other assigned responsibilities, which may include arrival, dismissal, carpool, lunch, recess, transitions, study halls, or other coverage needs Follow School emergency, safety, security, and student supervision procedures Promptly report suspected child abuse or neglect, student safety concerns, injuries, or other reportable matters in accordance with applicable law and School policy Comply with all School policies, procedures, professional expectations, and applicable laws and regulations Perform other duties and provide coverage as assigned based on School needs Qualifications Bachelor's Degree preferred Prior experience in teaching, substitute teaching, tutoring, coaching, childcare, youth programming, or another student-facing environment Demonstrated ability and interest in working effectively with children and adolescents Strong interpersonal and communication skills Dependability, punctuality, flexibility, and sound professional judgment Ability to follow established lesson plans, instructions, policies, and procedures Ability to maintain appropriate classroom structure, student supervision, and a safe learning environment Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling student and School information Ability to work collaboratively and professionally with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and families Flexibility to accept assignments on short notice Equal Employment Opportunity Davidson Day School is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate in employment opportunities or practices on the basis of race, color, religion, creed, sex (including pregnancy, childbirth, and related conditions), sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, veteran status, marital status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
