GENERAL PURPOSE
Under the supervision of the Building Administrator and/or other designated administrator, the Daily Building Substitute implements an instructional program as set forth by the classroom teacher. The Daily Building Substitute is responsible for adhering to the duties and responsibilities of a teacher or other specified staff member as outlined in the Stafford County School Board Policies and Regulations.
MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide classroom support Perform all the duties and responsibilities of the regular teacher staff unless released from such duties by the principal or designee completing a full teaching day according to the hours for the specific school level and provide a summary of the day's activities for the classroom teacher. Maintain an organized program of instruction based on the lesson plans provided by the teacher and communicate the lesson objective and its importance to students, preserve the regular routine of the classroom and implement fair and consistent methods for managing student behavior. Utilize a variety of appropriate teaching techniques, materials and resources for instructional purposes in class and out of class to adapt and adjust instructional presentation of subject content to students' needs and interests. Develop a resource of materials appropriate to a variety of academic levels, which may be used to augment the teacher's prepared lesson plans as necessary. Assume responsibility for care of materials, equipment, and facilities to maintain a neat, safe environment for students in the absence of the teacher and leave the room and materials in a neat and orderly manner. Practice and promote positive interaction with and among students to demonstrate enthusiasm for learning. Demonstrate interest in the students and the planned instructional activities while encouraging self-direction and self-motivation in students. Support and demonstrate core values of Stafford County Public Schools Engage in ongoing professional development relevant to position. Respond promptly and thoroughly to written and oral requests for information. Maintain a clean, neat appearance, appropriate to position. Maintain a record of appropriate attendance and punctuality. Serve as a role model for students, colleagues, and the general public. Work in close harmony with colleagues, supervisors, and co-workers. Comply with all District and School policies and regulations, including but not limited to guidelines for confidentiality. Perform other related duties as required/assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or its equivalent required; Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred. Valid teaching license preferred. Substitutes must be at least 19 years of age; or in their second year of college. All high school substitutes must be at least 21 years of age or in their senior year of college.

Knowledge School and School Board policies and regulations and guidelines provided in the Substitute Teacher's Onboarding, Orientation, and additional required trainings. Classroom management strategies appropriate to the learning situations Skills Use of written, verbal, or other forms of effective communication; thorough knowledge of English grammar and usage Address criticism in an appropriate manner and develop constructive outcomes. Abilities Work cooperatively in a team environment to meet goals Organize and perform work independently Meet deadlines for all work even when working on multiple projects Show sustained effort and enthusiasm in quality and quantity of work
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work environment is primarily inside, with moderate noise, temperatures that are controlled, and no exposure to chemicals or other negative air quality elements. The work is light work, requiring exertion of up to 20 pounds of force to move or lift objects. The following physical and mental abilities are representative of those expected to complete the essential functions of the job: standing for prolonged periods; sitting for prolonged periods; moving the hands, wrists, or fingers repetitively; moving with force on the back or lower body repetitively; feeling, grasping, or holding objects by hand; identifying colors visually; identifying objects in low light or distant conditions; communicating via spoken language; communicating via written language; perceiving sounds; making decisions using logic and rational thinking. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily.
