Library Instructional Assistant
Job Description
Library Instruction Plan and teach engaging weekly library specials for students in Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade. Foster a lifelong love of reading through read-alouds, book talks, author studies, and literacy-based activities. Teach age-appropriate library skills, including book care, library organization, and responsible use of library materials. Incorporate technology, STEM, and creative learning opportunities into library lessons when appropriate. Collaborate with classroom teachers to reinforce classroom curriculum through library resources and instruction. Student Academic Support Assist with providing reading interventions for students under the direction of classroom teachers, instructional coaches, or administrators. Assist with math interventions and targeted small-group instruction. Library Management Organize, shelve, and maintain library materials using established procedures. Assist students and staff with locating books and instructional resources. Learning Environment Create and maintain a warm, inviting, and student-centered library environment. Design engaging displays that promote reading, literacy, seasonal themes, and student work. Support schoolwide literacy initiatives, reading challenges, and family literacy events. Additional Responsibilities Maintain confidentiality regarding students and staff. Supervise students in accordance with school procedures. Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry books and instructional materials (up to approximately 25 pounds). Ability to bend, reach, stand, and move throughout the library and school building. Ability to supervise and actively engage with young children throughout the school day.
